Congratulations to all our award winners at the CEMA presentations. To see our great club grow across 4 disciplines is a dream come true. I remember teaching my first class in Cranbourne nearly 12 years ago with 6 students in a tiny old hall. Seeing over 400 people today really put things into perspective just how big our ‘little’ club has grown. From the kinda kids to our international fight team, every member is an important part of our club culture. Our teaching staff has done an incredible job ensuring all our members are not only cared for but are excelling in their endeavors. 2019 is looking to be an exciting year especially with the addition of our new BJJ coaches Dallas Twentyman and Joel Warren. I want to congratulate our new ‘Student of the year’ Matthew Lenette who dedicated his honor to the kids. Matty has grown from a small quiet boy to not only a formidable fighter but an incredible athlete and an amazing teacher. He is the type of role model that every child needs and every adult aspires to be. Congratulations to Ruby Charles and Cassie Armitage both winning ‘International fighter of the year’ after both placing 3rd in their divisions at the Okinawa Rookies Cup. Both girls have dedicated so much time and energy into their training and sacrificed more than most will ever understand. To say i am proud is such an understatement. Anyone who has witnessed what they endured in their pursuit will tell you just how hard they were pushed. Congratulations to Charlie Ellis for winning ‘Competitor of the year’ after his fantastic performances at his local and interstate tournaments. He was selected not just for his wins but more because of the way he handled his losses. He has shown a maturity beyond his years. Congratulations to Michael Barrett for winning the ‘Matthew Charles Budo award’ for his decade long service and commitment to CEMA. Sempai Michael has given his whole adult life to martial arts and has now become an accomplished teacher.

Congratulations to Kane Bradley for winning ‘Club person of the year’ for his tireless efforts helping with the growth of the club and his decade of commitment to every program. Kane is someone that every member has been able to lean on for support, he is always willing to step in to assist in the BJJ classes and has offered his expertise in yoga to our members.

Congratulations to Marcus Varga for winning the ‘Des Murphy scholarship’, Marcus has committed to his training over a number of years now and always turns up with a smile and a positive attitude. He is a quiet boy with a heart of gold and i know he will become an incredible leader.

Congratulations to Tahlia Agnew for winning the ‘Young warrior scholarship’. While very new to karate Tahlia has displayed a very strong commitment to training with a desire to excel. She is always willing to accept her flaws and improve, becoming loved among her peers and respected by her teachers.

Congratulations to all ‘Spirit award’ winners, you were selected because you have shown a willingness to learn and a dedication that has set you apart from your peers. Keep it up, greatness comes from spirited minds. OSU
